Educational Research![]() |
At
this site you will learn about our current research projects and gain a better
understanding of some of the issues involved in year-round schooling.
We
have been studying various froms of year-round schooling (YRS) for almost ten
years. Our studies have taken us to various districts in the United States and
Canada as well as to England and New Zealand.
Recently
we have found that YRS has the potential to:
1. Improve Student Learning,
2. Enhance Educational Equity, and
3. Achieve Possible Fiscal Savings.
How?
1.
The more even rhythm provided by a modified, alternative, or balanced calendar
seems to be associated with less burn-out, better attendance, higher levels of
motivation, and increased student learning.
2.
Offering intersession programming to students most in need of enrichment or
remediation seems to help them to stay "caught up" with their more
advantaged peers and hence to perfrom better, academically.
3.
Instituting a multi-track schedule of overlapping "tracks" of
students in school and on vacation at any one time may permit increased
building capacity and a decrease of per pupil expenditure across a district.
